In 2026 JSC Chemical and Metallurgical Plant (CMP) celebrates its 70th anniversary!
CMP stands out in the market through a combination of high production capacity and deep technological expertise: the quality of its lithium hydroxide and lithium metal is confirmed by international lithium-ion battery manufacturers.
In recent years CMP has significantly modernized its lithium operations: capacities for lithium hydroxide and lithium metal have been substantially increased, battery‑grade products with reduced impurity levels have been introduced for the battery market, lithium metal production has been relaunched, and the plant has switched to a more environmentally friendly type of fuel.
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of CMP’s founding, we spoke with the Technical Director of the plant Gennadiy Krylov, who has worked at CMP for 43 years and has grown from a young specialist into the head of the entire technical division.
Gennadiy Krylov became Technical Director in 2002, and in 2006 he was tasked with transitioning the plant to the different technological scheme. Today his responsibilities include implementation of new technologies and equipment, improving labor productivity, and ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
“CMP also has experience in production of tantalum concentrate, calcium fluoride for optics and periclase powders for refractory materials” – the Technical Director emphasized during the interview.

Gennady Krylov, Technical Director of JSC CMP
Gennadiy Krylov notes that he has worked at CMP for more than 40 years thanks to the favorable environment at the enterprise — continuous development and learning, a big team, opportunity to create new products and solutions, a short path from idea to implementation, fast decision‑making process. Gennadiy Krylov’s credo is ‘never stop learning throughout life’, which he proves by example: two higher education degrees, regular advanced training courses and professional certification every five years. Colleagues highlight the “gold standard” for a specialist, shaped by Krylov: technical experts shall understand the needs of the end user, while commercial men shall learn production processes and product characteristics.
“The future of CMP lies in upstream development and building the full lithium production chain — from mining to advanced lithium products. At the same time it is important to develop our own limestone quarry and process lime into higher value products. The high qualification level and broad capabilities of CMP research laboratory will make it possible to expand the product portfolio, maintain high production quality and provide services to other enterprises in the region” – concludes Gennadiy Krylov.
